How to Stop Snoring

Cures, remedies, and tips for you and your partner

Just about everyone snores occasionally. Even a baby or a beloved pet may snore! But snoring can affect the quantity and quality of your sleep. Poor sleep can lead to daytime fatigue, irritability, and increased health problems. And, if your snoring is so loud that your bed partner can't sleep, you may end up banished from the bedroom.

Sleeping in separate bedrooms doesn’t have to be the remedy for your snoring. In fact, there are many effective treatments for snoring. Discovering the cause of your snoring and finding the right cure will vastly improve your health, your relationships, and, of course, your sleep.

The causes of snoring: Identify the cause to find the cure
Have you ever sneezed one day from allergies then sneezed another day from a bad cold? Snoring is like that. In other words, not all snoring is the same. Everyone snores for different reasons. When we get to the bottom of why we snore, then we can find the right solutions to a quieter, deeper sleep.

People who snore often have too much throat and nasal tissue, or “floppy” tissue that is more prone to vibrate. The position of your tongue can also get in the way of smooth breathing. Evaluating how and when you snore will help you pinpoint whether the cause of your snoring is within your control or not. The good news is that no matter how and when you snore, there are solutions to making it better.

Common causes of snoring
Although it may be upsetting to think that there could be problems at the root of you or your bed buddy’s snoring, it’s important to get to the bottom of it. When you do, you’ll protect your health, and the intimacy of your relationship.

Age. As you reach middle age and beyond, your throat becomes narrower, and the muscle tone in your throat decreases.
The way you’re built. Men have narrower air passages than women and are more likely to snore. A narrow throat, a cleft palate, enlarged adenoids, and other physical attributes (which contribute to snoring) can be hereditary.
Nasal and sinus problems. Blocked airways make inhalation difficult and create a vacuum in the throat, leading to snoring.
Being overweight or out of shape. Fatty tissue and poor muscle tone contribute to snoring.
Alcohol, smoking, and medications. Alcohol intake, smoking (or second-hand smoke), and certain medications, increase muscle relaxation leading to more snoring.
Sleep posture. Sleeping flat on your back causes the flesh of your throat to relax and block the airway.

Don’t let snoring damage your relationship
Is snoring causing a riff in your relationship? No matter how much you love each other, lack of sleep can strain a relationship and put your health at risk. Though some snoring is harmless, other times it can indicate poor quality sleep as well as critical health problems such as sleep apnea.

Sharing a bed is one of the greatest pleasures of a romantic relationship because it fosters intimacy and closeness. Bedding down for the night should be a pleasant part of the evening that you and your partner look forward to. However, snoring can create a huge relationship roadblock because it prevents this joint end-of-day ritual. When snoring is a problem, relationship tension grows in the following ways.
1. Sleeping alone. If your partner snores, you might decide to sleep alone. That only makes for a lack of physical intimacy and a strained relationship. And if you’re the one snoring, you might feel lonely, isolated, and frustrated about something you feel you can’t control.
2. Snoring spats. It’s common to be irritable when lack of sleep is an issue. But try reining in your frustration. Remember, you want to attack the snoring problem—not your sleep partner.
3. Partner resentment. Partner resentment can grow when a non-snorer feels they do everything possible to sleep through the night (ear-plugs, noise-machines) but their partner does nothing to combat their own snoring. Working as a team to self-remedy will prevent future fights.

If you value your relationship, make it your priority to solve snoring so you can sleep together. Think of it like this: the way you and your bed buddy handle a snoring problem is a sign of the strength of your relationship. Working together to stop snoring can be an opportunity to improve the quality of your bond and become more connected.

Communicating with a partner who snores
So you love everything about your partner…except their snoring. It’s normal. Even the most patient amongst us will draw the line at sleep deprivation. But no matter how much sleep is lost due to secondhand snoring, it’s important to handle the problem sensitively. Remember that your partner likely feels vulnerable, isolated, and even a little embarrassed. And although it can be healthy for the relationship to communicate those vulnerabilities, it can be hurtful if done in an uncaring way. The following tips can help you approach your partner about his or her snoring.

Time your talk carefully. Avoid middle of the night or early morning discussions when you’re feeling exhausted.
Keep in mind it’s not intentional. Although it’s easy to feel like a victim when you lose sleep, remember that your partner isn’t keeping you awake on purpose.
Avoid lashing out. Sure sleep deprivation is aggravating and can be damaging to your health, but try your best to approach the problem in a non-confrontational way.
Beware of bitterness. Make sure that latching onto snoring is not an outlet for other hidden resentments you’re harboring.
Use humor and playfulness to bring up the subject without hurting your partner’s feelings. Laughing about it can ease tension. Just make sure it doesn’t turn into too much teasing.

Dealing with complaints about your snoring
It’s common to be caught off guard—not to mention a little hurt—about your snoring. After all, you probably don’t even realize it’s happening. And although it might seem silly that snoring can cause such relationship turmoil, it’s a common and a very real problem. If you dismiss your partner’s concerns and refuse to try to solve the problem, you’re sending a clear message to your partner that you don’t care about their needs. This could mean your relationship is in trouble, and that’s a bigger problem than the snoring.

Keep the following in mind as you and your partner work together to beat snoring.
1. Snoring is a physical issue. Typically, snorers feel a little embarrassed about their problem. Try to keep in mind that snoring is a physical issue. Like a pulled muscle or a common cold, improving the condition is in your hands.
2. Avoid taking it personally. Try not to take your partner’s frustration as a personal critique or attack. Your partner loves you, just not the snoring.
3. Take your partner seriously. Avoid minimizing complaints. Lack of sleep is a health hazard and can make you feel miserable all day.
4. Make it clear that you prioritize the relationship. If you and your partner have this understanding, you’ll both do what it takes to make the snoring better.
5. Address inappropriate behavior. Although sleep deprivation can lead to moodiness and irritability, let your partner know that it’s not okay for them to throw an elbow jab or snap at you when you’re snoring.

Self-help tips and snoring remedies
The good news is that there are is a lot you can do to stop snoring. Just be prepared to summon some patience, do a little detective work, and troubleshoot to try different remedies. Likely your snoring won’t go away over night, but keep at it. With a little teamwork, you and your partner can combat noisy nights together.

Begin getting to the bottom of a snoring problem by enlisting your non-snoring sleep partner to keep a sleep diary to help you sleuth the possible causes of your snoring. Monitoring the snoring will help diagnose why you snore and how to stop it.

Troubleshoot to stop snoring
So you’ve tried different sleeping positions and you still suffer from noisy nights? Try the following self-help tips.

1. Lose weight. Losing even a little bit of weight can reduce fatty tissue in the back of the throat and decrease snoring. See Healthy Weight Loss Your Way for some tips on getting started. Exercise in general can help because toning arms, legs, and abs inadvertently leads to toning muscles you don’t see in the throat, which leads to less snoring.
2. Clear nasal passages. Having a stuffy nose makes inhalation difficult and creates a vacuum in your throat, which in turn leads to snoring. You can do it naturally with a Neti pot or try nasal decongestants or nasal strips to help you breathe more easily while sleeping.
3. Quit smoking. If you smoke, your chances of snoring are high. Smoking causes airways to be blocked by irritating the membranes in the nose and throat.
4. Establish regular sleep patterns. Create a bedtime ritual with your partner and stick to it. Hitting the sack in a routine way together can promote better sleep and therefore minimize snoring.
5. Keep bedroom air moist with a humidifier. Dry air can irritate membranes in the nose and throat.
6. Reposition. Elevating your head four inches may ease breathing and encourage your tongue and jaw to move forward. (Tip: go pillow-free or try a specially designed pillow to make sure your neck muscles are not crimped).

Tip: The tennis ball trick
Do you sleep on your back? Try the “tennis ball trick”: sleep with a tennis ball (or similar sized ball) attached to the back of your pajama top. (You can sew or safety-pin a sock to the back of the pajama top, then put a tennis ball in it.) The tennis ball is uncomfortable if you lie on your back, and you will respond by turning on your side. Soon you will develop side-sleeping as a habit and not need the tennis ball.

Throat exercises to stop snoring

Done 30 minutes a day, throat exercises can be a cost-effective snore-reducer for people with mild to moderate sleep apnea. Studies show that by pronouncing certain vowel sounds and curling the tongue in specific ways, muscles in the upper respiratory tract are strengthened and therefore reduce snoring.

Try the following exercises to stop snoring. Start slow and gradually increase the number of sets you do every few days.
1. Repeat each vowel (a-e-i-o-u) out loud for three minutes throughout day.
2. Place the tip of your tongue behind your top front teeth. Slide your tongue backwards for 3 minutes a day
3. Close your mouth and purse your lips. Hold for 30 seconds.
4. With mouth open, move jaw to the right and hold for 30 seconds. Repeat on left side
5. With mouth open, contract the muscle at the back of your throat repeatedly for 30 seconds. Tip: Look in the mirror to see the uvula (“the hanging ball”) move up and down.

When to see a doctor
Some snoring indicates a serious warning sign. Call your doctor if your sleep partner shows any of the following red flags.
1. Snores loudly and heavily and is tired during the day
2. Stops breathing, gasps, or chokes during sleep
3. Falls asleep at inappropriate times, such as during a conversation or a meal

How to get cured by GOD'S PHARMACY

This is absolutely amazing – and makes perfect sense!! When you truly think about it! A friend sent this to me.

It’s been said that God first separated the salt water from the fresh, made dry land, planted a garden, made animals and fish… all before making a human. He made and provided what we’d need before we were born. These are best & more powerful when eaten raw. We’re such slow learners…

God left us great clues as to what foods help what part of our body!

God’s Pharmacy! Amazing!

A sliced Carrot looks like the human eye.The pupil, iris and radiating lines look just like the human eye… and YES, science now shows carrots greatly enhance blood flow to and function of the eyes.

Tomato has four chambers and is red. The heart has four chambers and is red. All of the research shows tomatoes are loaded with lycopine and are indeed pure heart and blood food.

Grapes hang in a cluster that has the shape of the heart. Each grape looks like a blood cell and all of the research today shows grapes are also profound heart and blood vitalizing food.

A Walnut looks like a little brain, a left and right hemisphere, upper cerebrums and lower cerebellums. Even the wrinkles or folds on the nut are just like the neo-cortex. We now know walnuts help develop more than three (3) dozen neuron-transmitters for brain function.

Kidney Beans actually heal and help maintain kidney function and yes, they look exactly like the human kidneys.

Celery, Bok Choy, Rhubarband many more look just like bones. These foods specifically target bone strength. Bones are 23% sodium and these foods are 23% sodium. If you don’t have enough sodium in our diet, the body pulls it from the bones, thus making them weak. These foods replenish the skeletal needs of the body.

Avocadoes, Eggplant and Pears target the health and function of the womb and cervix of the female – they look just like these organs. Today’s research shows that when a woman eats one avocado a week, it balances hormones, sheds unwanted birth weight, and prevents cervical cancers. And how profound is this? It takes exactly nine (9) months to grow an avocado from blossom to ripened fruit. There are over 14,000 photolytic chemical constituents of nutrition in each one of these foods (modern science has only studied and named about 141 of them).

Figs are full of seeds and hang in twos when they grow. Figs increase the mobility of male sperm and increase the numbers of Sperm as well to overcome male sterility.

Sweet Potatoes look like the pancreas and actually balance the glycemic index of diabetics.

Olives assist the health and function of the ovaries.

Oranges, Grapefruits, and other Citrus fruits look just like the mammary glands of the female and actually assist the health of the breasts and the movement of lymph in and out of the breasts.

Onions look like the body’s cells. Today’s research shows onions help clear waste materials from all of the body cells. They even produce tears which wash the epithelial layers of the eyes. A working companion, Garlic, also helps eliminate waste materials and dangerous free radicals from the body.

How do you spend your "all" in life

A fascinating story by Bo Sanchez

Let me now tell you a fascinating story.

Jack, Ken, Poy

There were three brothers named Jack, Ken, and Poy.
One day, they were walking on the road. Each was carrying a bayong (native basket). They had just come from the field and harvested some potatoes.

Soon, they met an old poor man on the road, pulling a rickety cart behind him. He was dressed in rags and was walking barefoot.

“What happened to you?” the brothers asked him.
The old man said, “My whole town has been flooded! Hundreds of people are now homeless, without food or water. They are very hungry. Can you give your sweet potatoes so I could feed my poor townspeople?”

Jack, Ken, and Poy looked at each other and nodded their heads.
I’m telling you this story because Jack, Ken, and Poy represent the three kinds of givers in the world today. I want you to find out what kind of giver you are.

Jack, The Token Giver
Jack reached down his basket, pulled out 3 potatoes, and placed them onto the cart of the old man.
And the beggar said, “Thank you so much, my son.”
Jack represents the first type of giver: The Token Giver.
All Jack does is give tokens of himself whenever he can.
In his family, he gives tokens of his time and energy to his kids and his wife—just enough so his wife won’t leave him.
In his job, he does the barest minimum possible—so he won’t get fired.
And in Church, whenever the love offering basket is passed, he doesn’t tithe—he gives tokens. Just to say that he gave.

Because of his habit of giving tokens, his returns are tiny.
He has a job but his career is stagnant.
His family lives in one house but relationships are shallow.
He goes to Church but hasn’t grown spiritually.
Others however are like Ken…
Ken, The Tentative Giver
Ken did something different.
He brought his bayong near the cart, tilted it and poured half of its contents.
The old beggar said, “Thank you very much, my son.”
Ken represents the second type of giver in the world: The Tentative Giver.
He gives more than just tokens, but he still holds back.
In his family, he gives himself to them tentatively.
He has a 50/50 approach to relationships. Because of this, his relationships are average. Not great.
Let me tell you why.
I’ve been married for 12 years and here’s one very important principle I’ve learned: Marriages don’t work if the husband gives 50% and the wife gives 50%. A marriage works only if the husband and the wife each give 100% to each other.
When it comes to relationships, you don’t measure what you give. You don’t count. You throw away the ruler.
You don’t say, “I rubbed your back, you should rub my back.” That’s not love, that’s business. That’s not love, that’s legal contracts.
When you love a person, and you feel like you’re giving more than he’s giving you—don’t be bitter. Because you know that even if you don’t count, God is counting. And the Law of the universe will be the one who will reward you.
(Note: When I talk this way, I’m not talking about tolerating abusive, or drunkard, or philandering husbands. That’s a totally different issue. I’m talking about healthy marriages here!)
In his job, it’s the same: Ken gives satisfactory work. But not great work. He never goes beyond average. He never exceeds expectations.
How many of you know this: Promotions doesn’t go to performance. Promotions go to superior performance.
Ken hasn’t been promoted. Because he doesn’t take initiative or develops himself. He doesn’t look for ways to become better, or get trained, or look for mentors.
In his spiritual life, it’s the same story.
He tries to follow God but doesn’t trust Him with his entire life. He holds back.
Not like Poy.

Poy, The Total Giver
It was Poy’s turn.
Poy brought his bayong to the cart, inverted it and unloaded everything. He now carried an empty bayong.
The old man said, “Thank you very much, my son.”
Poy represents the third kind of giver: The Total Giver.
Manny Pacquaio is a Poy in boxing.
Larry Bird is a Poy in basketball.
Gary V is a Poy in entertainment.
Jacky Chan is a Poy in making action movies.
Haven’t you noticed? If you want to be successful, you’ve got to be a little bit crazy. Insane. Illogical. Unreasonable. Fanatical.
Can you imagine doing 3000 sit-ups every day?
Or shooting 3-point shots while closing your eyes?
Or doing 2900 retakes for one scene?
They’re nuts.
But that’s Poy.
Poy knows the magic of giving his all.
Note: You also realize that there are two types of successful people in the world. First are those who are successful in one field only—but are dismal failures in other areas. The second are those who are successful in the most important areas of their lives. And you find these people living among us. And that’s what God wants for you!
Let me go back to Poy.

Poy gives his entire heart to his family. He doesn’t want an okay marriage. He’s committed to a great marriage. He doesn’t want to have an average relationship with his kids. Each day, he works to build deep bonds with them that will last forever.

In his job or business, Poy also works with passion. He loves what he does. And he loves his customers. For him, work is play. Because of this, he’s pro-active, takes initiative, gets training, hones his craft, and has a lifelong commitment to grow .

And in his relationship with God, Poy completely surrenders himself to Him. He trusts God. He follows God all the way. He gives his time, his talent, and his treasure to God.
I repeat my question: Who are you?

The Law Of The Universe
My story isn’t over.
As Poy stepped back with his empty bayong, lo and behold, the old beggar transformed and became a Wizard!
Instead of tattered rags, he now wore a golden robe.
He had a long beard and his face seemed shining.
The three brothers were so shocked, they could hardly speak or move.

The Wizard said, “The Law of the Universe says that whatever you give, you shall receive. It’s the Law of Reciprocity. So be ready to receive. How much will you receive? The measure that you used in giving will be the same measure used for rewarding you.”

And in a flash, POOF, the Wizard was gone.

The three brothers rubbed their eyes, wondering if it was all a dream. They walked home in a daze.
Because they were still in shock, none of them noticed that their bayongs were getting heavier with every step they took.

It was only when they reached home did they realize that something miraculous happened.
All their bayongs were filled to the brim!

Jack opened his bayong and shouted, “Ken, Poy, look! The 3 potatoes that I gave the old man were now replaced by 3 bars of gold.”

Ken opened his bayong and said, “Half of my bayong filled with gold bars!”

And Poy opened his bayong, and saw all of it filled with gold bars!
Once again, tell me, who are you: Jack, Ken, or Poy?

How to become a champion

How to become a champion
By Bo Sanchez

Today, I’d like to teach you how to become a Champion.
I’d like to teach you how to get Big Returns in your life.
Now if you want small returns, skip this piece.
It won’t interest you.
If you want to live a mediocre life, content with mediocre harvests, mediocre results, mediocre rewards, mediocre marriage, a mediocre job, mediocre relationships, mediocre happiness, I repeat: this stuff isn’t for you.
But if you want big returns, big miracles, big blessings, big healing, big happiness—then continue reading.
This is for you!
Look around you.
The Secret of Big Returns is known by champions of the world.
Why are they champions?
Because they practice the secret.

How Many Sit-Ups Can You Make?
Why is Manny Pacquiao the best pound-for-pound boxing champion in the world?
You and I only see what Manny does on the ring.
We don’t see what he does outside the ring.
For example, I can do 10 sit-ups comfortably.
One day, to impress my wife, I tried doing 30 sit-ups. I only reached 25. After that, she had to carry me to bed.
Do you know how many sit-ups does Manny Pacquiao make in a day? 100? 200? 500? 1000?
Nope.
He does 3000. Every single day.
No wonder he’s a champ.
No wonder his abs are like steel.
When he’s training before a fight, from Monday to Saturday, he starts at 5:30am and ends at 4:00pm. That’s more than ten hours of rigorous, grueling, hardcore, violent training. Everyday!
In fact, Coach Freddie Roach says that Manny has one weakness: “Manny has a tendency to over-train, I have to stop him.” That’s dedication.
Why is Manny a champion in boxing?
Because he knows the secret of big returns: He gives his all.

The Guy Couldn’t Miss A Shot
Larry Bird was one of the best basketball players in the history of the game.
He was known for his shooting magic.
But it was no magic. It was practice.
After every team practice, he’d be the last player to leave the gym. While everyone else was taking a shower in the lockers, Larry would close the lights in the court and practice shooting in semi-darkness. Many times, he’d practice three-point shots while closing his eyes. He’d do that everyday.
One day, Larry Bird was making a commercial. The Director instructed him to miss a shot. That was what the scene required. Because his muscle memory was so strong, Larry had to take 10 shots before he missed it!
Why was Larry a champion in basketball?
Because he knew the secret of big returns: He gave his all.

Diabetes Couldn’t Stop The Dancing
Gary Valenciano is “Mr. Pure Energy”.
He’s the only entertainer that has won the Awit Award for Best Male Performer 11 times!
Yet this man has had Type 1 Juvenile Diabetes since he was 14 years old. So far, he’s had 90,000 insulin injections in his body. Yet his sickness has not stopped him giving his all every single time he’s on stage.
Why is Gary a champion in entertainment?
Because he knows the secret of big returns: He gives his all.

Broken Bones Come With His Job
Jackie Chan is one of the most successful action movie stars in the world today. He’s big both in Hongkong and Hollywood.
Jackie appears twice in the Guiness Book of World Records.
First, he holds the record for “most stunts by a living actor”. In fact, no insurance company is willing to insure him.
Because of his movies, he has fractured his skull, dislocated his pelvis, broken his fingers, toes, nose, both cheekbones, hips, sternum, neck, ankle, and ribs many times.
Second, he holds the world record for the most number of takes for a single shot in a movie. To make one scene perfect, Jackie had to shoot 2900 retakes. Of one scene!
Talk about dedication to his craft.
That’s Jackie Chan.
Why is Jackie a champion in action movies?
Because he knows the secret of big returns: He gives his all.

The Most Admired Person
In The 20th Century

Mother Teresa was called a living saint.
According to Gallop polls, survey after survey shows that even while she was still alive, Mother Teresa was already the single most admired person in the 20th century.
She served the poorest of the poor for 45 years. When she passed away, she left the world with 4000 nuns that ran 610 centers in 123 countries.
Why has she inspired millions of people?
Because she gave her all.

The Bible says, Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. (2 Corinthians 9:6)

It’s really the Law of the Harvest.
What you plant, you harvest.
If you plant small, you harvest small.
If you plant big, you harvest big.
And if you plant all, you harvest all!

How to handle hostage crisis better than MPD

Allow me to share with you this old video clip demonstrating a more appropriate and professional way in executing assualt and perhaps take over during hostage crisis.

Too sad that this clip was not used to train our local MPD or Manila's Pinest Dudes.

The operatives are said to be members of the Serbian Special Forces. How i wish that our enforcers and protectors can do the same.

Enjoy and learn from the clip.

How to arrive fresh and relaxed to work

Monday morning. Early rush and head ache. Both you and your spouse are working and you have to prepare your children going to school. Not yet at work and you are already haggard and stressed not to mention that you’ll probably experience a long queue in the train station or will be under heavy traffic condition upon hitting the road and running late for work.

How can you be able to cope up and overcome this morning rush but arriving relaxed and fresh to work?

Here are some tips to help you achieve this:

1. Put your keys (house, car or office keys) in permanent location every night so you will know where to get them every morning. It is also advisable to include your watch jewelries (if any) or other accessories needed for the next day.

2. Plan and arrange your clothes to wear the night before. Most people tend to spend about 10 minutes staring and choosing several clothes before ending up with the right combination.

3. Take a bath before going to bed. This gives you 2 advantages: First, it will give you a better sleep and second, taking a quick shower in the morning will just be for waking up your body and not because you need to get cleaned.

4. Prepare the breakfast right after dinner. Tell your helper what you want for breakfast and prepare the table in advance if possible.

5. Set a schedule in the bathroom as to who comes in first. This will save and maximize your time well and will ensure smooth flow around the house.

6. Wash your car every other day depending on the situation. You may also do this while waiting for your turn in number 5. Don't do the detailing. Have this procedure done during weekends.

7. Alarm clock will save the day. Nowadays, mobile phones can do wonders for you. Make sure to have your phone fully charged before sleeping. You may charge the battery while having dinner. Have a back up like the conventional alarm clock preferably the battery operated so that it will not reset in case of power failure.

8. Plan your route whether using a public transport or driving your own ride. Keep a map and make sure it is updated. This will give you better edge should you need to have a alternate route.

9. Have your clock inside the house or car with allowance. Ours is 20 minutes in advance giving us more time should there be any challenges on the road.

10. Hear the news than read the news. It is practical to TURN ON your radio than reading newspaper. You can listen while driving. Reading the paper can wait till lunch time or if you have the luxury in the morning.

With these tips, I can guarantee that you will save time, drive smoothly and arrive at work fresh and relaxed.

Have a great morning!

It is always important to observe and behave accordingly in every social gathering as this will define you your personality. Every act you make will can tell if you belong to the group or to the zoo.

So here are some basic etiquettes to help you through:

BE ON TIME ALL THE TIME
Arriving on time shows great professionalism and respect for other’s time as well. Professionalism will always be the name of the game.

INITIAL MEET UPS
Do not go directly to the bar or food station area upon arriving. Go and meet you colleagues, host, or even your boss first no matter how badly you need that gulp. Avoid going to the toilet first as well. If you need to fix yourself, do it before entering the function area. Most hotels and function halls provide common rest rooms available for your use.

DRESS PROPERLY
Read and follow the dress code and dress modestly. Avoid flashy clothing and accessories. Be natural but keep you posture up all the time.

SOCIAL & NETWORKING MEETS
This is the most exciting part since this is a golden opportunity to represent your group to other attendees. This is also critical because like what mention before, you acts reflect your organization and upbringings. Move around the function area. Start a conversation with a small talk. Avoid debatable topics like religion or politics.

Observe proper in a corporate social function. Never show-off. Do not express gripes or complains in work.

ACCOMPANY YOUR COMPANY
Please remember that if you have someone with you attending the gathering, stay close to them.

Similar to drinking, eat moderately. Do not gobble up on the buffet area. Do not make them think that you were there only to experience. In a formal set up, the utensils should be used from the outside in.

GRACEFUL EXIST
Make sure that you have accomplished your social and professional tasks before saying your master exit lines. Don’t slip out without doing so.

How to avoid losing your key people

This article came from one of my idol - Mr. Francis Kong forwarded to me by a friend Ric Paredes.

Do you know how difficult it is to get good people to work for you?

And do you know how challenging it is to have the same good people remain with you when they are offered better positions and better pay somewhere else and when I say somewhere else I mean your competitors? To work abroad where the pay is maybe 5 to 10 times more than you can afford is a no-contest situation but when your good people leave you because you did not handle them correctly, then the fault is yours. And it’s really a dumb thing you did if you allow that to happen. Some sources estimate that as many as 65 percent of people leaving companies do so because of their managers. We may say that people quit their job or their company, but the reality is that they usually quit their lousy bosses. We need to remember one thing: the business organization doesn’t do anything negative to the good people who left, it’s the people inside who do. Leadership is a skill. It is both art and science. For people who think they are born leaders and never even bothered to improve on their skills are liabilities when it comes to handling people. These are the same people who drive good people away into the hands of their competitors.

And so this is the key: Good people do not leave organizations. Good people usually leave their lousy bosses. And I will tell you why.

Most leaders can make a good impression on employees when they first meet. Add to that the optimism people have when they start a new job. They want a new job to work out. But over time, leaders will be recognized for who they really are, not who they are trying to appear to be. If a boss is a jerk, it’s only a matter of time before an employee knows it.

So what kinds of bosses or leaders do employees quit? Most often they come in several types:

1. People quit people who devalue them. When leaders devalue their people, they begin to manipulate them. They start treating them like objects, not people. Look for people’s value and express your appreciation for them.

2. People quit people who are untrustworthy. It becomes very difficult to overcome the damage done in a relationship when trust has been lost. Building and maintaining trust as a leader is a matter of integrity and communication. If you don’t want people to quit you, you need to be consistent, open and truthful with them.

3. People quit people who are incompetent. When leaders are incompetent, they become a distraction to the team . Productivity declines, morale suffers and positive momentum becomes impossible.

4. People quit people who are insecure. People want to work for leaders who fire them up, not who put out their fire.

5. People quit people who are temperamental. It is easy to spot who these bosses are. They are the same people who are 90% temper and only 10% mental. They have mood swings and like a tornado the moment they lose their temper the unharnessed energy simply destroys everything along its path.

6. People quit people who are abusive. “The Devil Wears Pradaish” boss who makes their people do personal errands in their behalf loses the respect of their people. “Would you please pick up a gift for my girlfriend...” “Please bring my suit to the cleaners... please pick them up for me...” you know what I mean. As a leader you need to put a high value on those who work for you and those who work with you. This is called true leadership. It takes skills. It takes tools but most important of all is that it takes a heart of service and care.

Here is a cliché: People do not care how much you know until they know how much you care. Read books on leadership. Attend seminars on leadership but most importantly develop your character and attitude and inspire your people to become better and more productive people too. This is the essence of servant leadership. Let Jesus be your model for leadership.

How to improve your management skills in 5 minutes

Please find time to read this.

They are funny and we can learn somehow from these short lectures.

Lesson 1

A man is getting into the shower just as his wife is finishing up her shower, when the doorbell rings.
The wife quickly wraps herself in a towel and runs downstairs.
When she opens the door, there stands Bob, the next-door neighbor.
Before she says a word, Bob says, 'I'll give you $800 to drop that towel.'
After thinking for a moment, the woman drops her towel and stands naked in front of Bob, after a few seconds,
Bob hands her $800 and leaves.

The woman wraps back up in the towel and goes back upstairs.

When she gets to the bathroom, her husband asks, 'Who was that?'

'It was Bob the next door neighbor,' she replies.

'Great,' the husband says, 'did he say anything about the $800 he owes me?'

Moral of the story:
If you share critical information pertaining to credit and risk with your shareholders in time, you may be in
a position to prevent avoidable exposure.

Lesson 2:

A Priest offered a Nun a lift.

She got in and crossed her legs, forcing her gown to reveal a leg.

The priest nearly had an accident.

After controlling the car, he stealthily slid his hand up her leg.
The nun said, 'Father, remember Psalm 129?'

The priest removed his hand. But, changing gears, he let his hand slide up her leg again.

The nun once again said, 'Father, remember Psalm 129?'
The priest apologized 'Sorry sister but the flesh is weak.'

Arriving at the convent, the nun sighed heavily and went on her way.

On his arrival at the church, the priest rushed to look up Psalm 129.
It said, 'Go forth and seek, further up, you will find glory.'

Moral of the story:
If you are not well informed in your job, you might miss a great opportunity.

Lesson 3:

A sales rep, an administration clerk, and the manager are walking to lunch when they find an antique oil lamp.

They rub it and a Genie comes out.

The Genie says, 'I'll give each of you just one wish.'

'Me first! Me first!' says the admin clerk. 'I want to be in the Bahamas, driving a speedboat, without a care in the world.'

Puff! She's gone.
'Me next! Me next!' says the sales rep. 'I want to be in Hawaii, relaxing on the beach with my personal masseuse,
an endless supply of Pina Coladas and the love of my life.'

Puff! He's gone.

'OK, you're up,' the Genie says to the manager.

The manager says, 'I want those two back in the office after lunch.'

Moral of the story:
Always let your boss have the first say.

Lesson 4

An eagle was sitting on a tree resting, doing nothing.

A small rabbit saw the eagle and asked him, 'Can I also sit like you and do nothing?'

The eagle answered: 'Sure, why not.'

So, the rabbit sat on the ground below the eagle and rested. All of a sudden, a fox appeared, jumped on the rabbit and ate it.

Moral of the story:
To be sitting and doing nothing, you must be sitting very, very high up.

Lesson 5

A turkey was chatting with a bull.
'I would love to be able to get to the top of that tree' sighed the turkey, 'but I haven't got the energy.'

'Well, why don't you nibble on some of my droppings?' replied the bull.

They're packed with nutrients.'

The turkey pecked at a lump of dung, and found it actually gave him enough strength to reach the lowest branch of the tree.

The next day, after eating some more dung, he reached the second branch.

Finally after a fourth night, the turkey was proudly perched at the top of the tree.

He was promptly spotted by a farmer, who shot him out of the tree.

Moral of the story:
Bull Shit might get you to the top, but it won't keep you there....

Lesson 6

A little bird was flying south for the winter. It was so cold the bird froze and fell to the ground into a large field.

While he was lying there, a cow came by and dropped some dung on him.

As the frozen bird lay there in the pile of cow dung, he began to realize how warm he was.

The dung was actually thawing him out!

He lay there all warm and happy, and soon began to sing for joy.
A passing cat heard the bird singing and came to investigate.

Following the sound, the cat discovered the bird under the pile of cow dung, and promptly dug him out and ate him.

Morals of the story:
(1) Not everyone who shits on you is your enemy.
(2) Not everyone who gets you out of shit is your friend.
(3) And when you're in deep shit, it's best to keep your mouth shut!

THUS ENDS THE FIVE MINUTE MANAGEMENT COURSE

How to manage your time better

Excerpt from: Twice as Much in Half the Time,
by Amy Jones

What does it mean to manage your time (and life) better?
Simply put, it means to live your life in such a way that you are able to accomplish more, so that at the end of each day you can realize measurable results and enjoy a sense of fulfillment. This often involves learning to do things differently so that the outcomes are more efficient and effective (and even less time-consuming) than before. After reading from countless resources and speaking to over half a million people on the subject of time management, I have come up with a simple truth. Learning to manage your life and your time isn't rocket science. Anyone can do it! In fact, it is often the simple things you can do that will make profound differences. Sometimes you even have to go backward in order to go forward; so let's go back-to-basics with this example.

First, grab a pencil and paper. Think back to the time you started school, all the way back to kindergarten. One of the first things you learned was how to identify shapes. Next you learned to draw them. On that sheet of paper I want you to do something very simple. Draw one triangle. That was simple, wasn't it? Now, draw as many triangles as you can in twenty seconds. Stop. Count how many you were able to draw. Write down that number. Do you think there might be another way to complete this activity and draw more in less time?

Start at one side of the paper and draw connected W's all the way across the page. Now put a line across the top and the bottom. See how many you can draw in twenty seconds using this method. Wow, that creates a lot of triangles! In only a few seconds you have learned to do this activity more efficiently and effectively in a much shorter amount of time. A seemingly insignificant change can make a significant difference in what can be accomplished in a given amount of time. In fact, you most likely made up to four or five times as many triangles the second time around.

What if you could do four or five times your sales volume by making a simple change? Or what if you could get four or five times as much done each day by making a simple change? Would that work for you?

If so, always be on the lookout for "new" ways to do "old" things, and keep your mind open to using alternative methods and plans of action. This book is filled with simple things that can make a profound difference. Are you ready to learn some new ways to manage your life and your time even better?

Then let's get started!

How to relax in an instant

Have you ever been in a situation when you want to relax and past the time doing your favorite hobby but you couldn’t because somehow you feel tense and irritated?

Here are few things you can do to initiate a relaxing mood:
1. Drink a hot cup of coffee or tea. It’s nearly impossible to gulp a hot drink. The few minutes you spent blowing to cool the coffee and alternately sipping it will calm you down without even knowing it. Avoid the commercial coffee; drink only the exotic variety or those with herbal extract like Ganoderma lucidum. For tea, try chamomile, ginger root, chrysanthemum or the Radix glycyrrhizae.

2. Breathe deeply. When you are highly stressed and irritated, you tend to sigh, gasp, or sputter. To slow your breathing, focus on each breath – in through your nose, out through your mouth. Concentrate on nothing but inhaling and exhaling. Start with vigorous deep breath, then slowly tone it down.

3. Make yourself smile. Smiling can do wonders to your thoughts, even though you are all alone and it looks silly. Think of funny and beautiful moments, and re-collect the joy of the experience. Remember that when you smile, you use only 15 facial muscles while you when you frown, you use 43.

4. Focus on your hobby. If you are in to gardening, try to marvel at the colorful flowers or fruits of your plants. If you are fixing your coin collection, browse through the beauty and intricacies of the designs of the coins. The feeling of satisfaction will overwhelm or somehow minimize the stress that you have.

5. Sit in rocking chair. It’s not only for the old folks. Whenever you are feeling irritated or worn-out, try the rocking chair. Close your eyes as you do it and for about 15 minutes you feel the difference of relaxation.

6. Hit the hits. Listening to cool and chill music will always be on the list. Studies proved that listening to soft music tends to slow down your adrenalin thus making you relax for a moment. This activity is best done using earphones and listening to about 2 to 3 will be enough.

7. Stay on the top. This is just my personal recommendation. Best for those who are not acrophobia- free or not afraid of heights. Get to the top most part you’re your office building. Better if you can access the roof deck. DO NOT JUMP! All you need to do is to breathe for a few times then glimpse the mega structures in your area. See how each building is positioned. Better if you bring along a map with you. Giving you instant lesson on direction an compass 101.
