How to attend a corporate social function

It is always important to observe and behave accordingly in every social gathering as this will define you your personality. Every act you make will can tell if you belong to the group or to the zoo.

So here are some basic etiquettes to help you through:

BE ON TIME ALL THE TIME
Arriving on time shows great professionalism and respect for other’s time as well. Professionalism will always be the name of the game.

INITIAL MEET UPS
Do not go directly to the bar or food station area upon arriving. Go and meet you colleagues, host, or even your boss first no matter how badly you need that gulp. Avoid going to the toilet first as well. If you need to fix yourself, do it before entering the function area. Most hotels and function halls provide common rest rooms available for your use.

DRESS PROPERLY
Read and follow the dress code and dress modestly. Avoid flashy clothing and accessories. Be natural but keep you posture up all the time.

SOCIAL & NETWORKING MEETS
This is the most exciting part since this is a golden opportunity to represent your group to other attendees. This is also critical because like what mention before, you acts reflect your organization and upbringings. Move around the function area. Start a conversation with a small talk. Avoid debatable topics like religion or politics.





BEHAVE
Observe proper in a corporate social function. Never show-off. Do not express gripes or complains in work.

ACCOMPANY YOUR COMPANY
Please remember that if you have someone with you attending the gathering, stay close to them.
Avoid bringing of children as they may cause distraction.

CARD HAND-OVER
Always bring a card with you when attending social functions. Produce your business cards smoothly and give it by your two hands, using both thumbs with your card facing the other party. Hold on to that and avoid keeping the business cards immediately inside your wallet.

DRINK MODERATELY
Follow the TV ads, “Drink moderately”
If you have canned drinks, use a glass and do not drink straight up, just get a sip or two to satisfy

FACT FINDING
Make a research as to who will be arriving. This way you can prepare something that will be the groups’ common interest. Make small talks with the group members and avoid forcing any issue.

EAT RIGHT
Similar to drinking, eat moderately. Do not gobble up on the buffet area. Do not make them think that you were there only to experience. In a formal set up, the utensils should be used from the outside in.
Put the table napkin on your lap or place it on the top of the plate to signify that you are done. During the passing of the foods, use your left hand to pick up the food since your right hand is reserved for any moment handshake.

WATCH FOR YOUR PROMISE
Jot it down before your forget. Remember in a corporate ladder, undelivered promise may result as a missing step in your advancement.

GRACEFUL EXIST
Make sure that you have accomplished your social and professional tasks before saying your master exit lines. Don’t slip out without doing so.
