How to relax in an instant

Have you ever been in a situation when you want to relax and past the time doing your favorite hobby but you couldn’t because somehow you feel tense and irritated?

Here are few things you can do to initiate a relaxing mood:
1. Drink a hot cup of coffee or tea. It’s nearly impossible to gulp a hot drink. The few minutes you spent blowing to cool the coffee and alternately sipping it will calm you down without even knowing it. Avoid the commercial coffee; drink only the exotic variety or those with herbal extract like Ganoderma lucidum. For tea, try chamomile, ginger root, chrysanthemum or the Radix glycyrrhizae.

2. Breathe deeply. When you are highly stressed and irritated, you tend to sigh, gasp, or sputter. To slow your breathing, focus on each breath – in through your nose, out through your mouth. Concentrate on nothing but inhaling and exhaling. Start with vigorous deep breath, then slowly tone it down.

3. Make yourself smile. Smiling can do wonders to your thoughts, even though you are all alone and it looks silly. Think of funny and beautiful moments, and re-collect the joy of the experience. Remember that when you smile, you use only 15 facial muscles while you when you frown, you use 43.

4. Focus on your hobby. If you are in to gardening, try to marvel at the colorful flowers or fruits of your plants. If you are fixing your coin collection, browse through the beauty and intricacies of the designs of the coins. The feeling of satisfaction will overwhelm or somehow minimize the stress that you have.

5. Sit in rocking chair. It’s not only for the old folks. Whenever you are feeling irritated or worn-out, try the rocking chair. Close your eyes as you do it and for about 15 minutes you feel the difference of relaxation.

6. Hit the hits. Listening to cool and chill music will always be on the list. Studies proved that listening to soft music tends to slow down your adrenalin thus making you relax for a moment. This activity is best done using earphones and listening to about 2 to 3 will be enough.

7. Stay on the top. This is just my personal recommendation. Best for those who are not acrophobia- free or not afraid of heights. Get to the top most part you’re your office building. Better if you can access the roof deck. DO NOT JUMP! All you need to do is to breathe for a few times then glimpse the mega structures in your area. See how each building is positioned. Better if you bring along a map with you. Giving you instant lesson on direction an compass 101.
